colorful tombstones

it was the kind

of neighborhood that never

threw away

their cars

or washing machines,

or refrigerators.

like tombstones

they found their way

into the side yard,

or in the driveway.

all tombstones of a sort

representing

happier times.

when money was flush,

before the third

divorce.

the blue chevy on blocks,

the pink

ice box,

the periwinkle blue

washer

and dryer,

all of them set out to rust.
