told me
longingly about his stay
in jail, third
DUI, and a bar fight,
how his cell
had a barred window
with a view
of the morning sun.
single occupancy
with a twin bed.
he said the food was not
too bad.
bacon and eggs,
for breakfast
and sandwiches for lunch,
chicken dinners,
with jello for dessert
before bed.
he worked on his muscles
in the yard,
and had access to the library
and computer,
and of course unlimited
tv time.
Saturday nights was bingo
or a movie,
or charades.
occasionally an intense
card game of
old maid. Sunday was
for church and visitor
hours.
it was the best sixty days
of my life,
he said.
