i look

over the fence and see

her lying

on a lawn chair,

oiled down

for the sun.

she's on the phone

talking to me.

my schedule is full

today, she says.

can you call me

tomorrow?

i might have a few

minutes free time

at some point.

she doesn't know i'm

there.

i'm at work she says,

meetings, meetings,

all day.

i'm under a lot

of pressure, okay?

tomorrow?

i hang up the phone,

then yell over the fence.
