foreign soil

when they get back
from
Italy
they want their walls painted
in the colors they
saw.
the reds
and browns,
the faded yellows.
they wear a scarf around
their neck
and talk of churches.
of food,
of small villages
off the beaten trek.
they have pictures on
their
phone, cathedrals,
and faces.
small children,
the old.
when they get back from
Italy,
it's hard being here,
living as we do,
and letting go.
