all that wasted dough

as i walk by the greeting card

section in the grocery store

i think about all the money

i've been saving

over the past couple of years

from not  buying any

of those cards about love 

and friendship,

devotion and joy.

soulmates, please.

i shake my head and sigh at

all those gift bags, those ribbons

and bows.

and then there's flowers. 

good Lord, what

i wouldn't do to have back

all that wasted dough.
