smarty pants

i used to know
math.

a lot of math having taken
calculus
and analysis

trigonometry
and

algebra two, or three.

but now
i look at  a column of numbers

and get the calculator
out.

bread, milk, rent, gas,
electric, insurance, miscellaneous,
etc.

sine and cosine,
the square roots of anything,
and quadratic equations are distant
memories now

as are the kids
with thick glasses

and slide rules, pocket
protectors,

all to the likes of MIT,
not community
college bound.
