you have to move the chair
or the table

just an inch
to the left of right.

to make
things work,
to have that okay feeling

that everything is exactly
where it should be.

the lamp
on the table.

the plant on the sill.
the pillows
on the couch, each

positioned just so.

it's a strange feeling,
but it feels

good when the world is
crumbling around
you,

to have just this little
bit of control.

some sort of harmony,
feng shui
as rome burns
