under the radar

in time

we discover who people are.
we suspect
early on

who's a fool, who isn't,
but there are

some people that fly
under the radar,

not easily known.
their charm and good looks

get them in and out
the door.

sly. deceitful and dangerous
they are.

we feel the clues, but
don't see them.

we reel out more and more
rope,

excusing their behavior,
their lies,
their betrayals.

we let them go on and on
and
on, until
at last

the light goes on, and we
take out our sharpest
knife and cut.

we let them fall.
