the asterisk

when something has the ring
of truth about it,
you nod and take note. file
it away
as something to be remembered.
a tale told,
or an obscure fact.
but strangely when a lie
is said
and you know it's a lie, that
too gets filed away,
never to be mistaken
for a truth,
you put an asterisk by the
person's name who spoke.
