lines of poetry,

full mythology, the Greeks,

Homer

and Aristotle.

Dante's Inferno.

i'm full to the brim

with Larkin

and Ignatow,

Bukowski and Strand.

i barely finished

college,

barely got an A

in plumbers' school,

or graduated from

The Computer Learning

Center

with honors.

i'm a fool.

and yet, i still want to understand

you.

i want to read

one line, and say, oh, i get it now.

it took a while,

but at last

i see what you're up to.
