one large pepperoni pizza from Luigi's

she saved
me a slice of pizza
from over the weekend.
Luigi's.
i tell her thanks, but no thanks.
is it stale now?
no, she says. i put
it in the fridge,
but there's one slice
i don't want anyone eat.
i just want to show
it to you, show you how
the cheese
and pepperoni
is situated on the slice.
the way the crust is rising
up from the box.
i'll send you a picture.
now you tell me
if that doesn't look
like Mary Magdelene
holding Jesus in her arms.
don't the little bubbles of cheese
look like sheep?
the picture comes through.
i stare at it,
then hold the phone up
to the light.
umm, i don't know.
it looks like melted cheese to me,
i tell her, mozzarella,
and a round slice of pepperoni.
well, i think it might be a sign
of some sort.
a miracle in the making.
i think it's that new wood oven
they have now.
Jesus was a carpenter by the way.
i'm going to post it online
to see what people say.
okay, i tell her.
but what about the rest of
the pizza, any of it left?
i can stop by tonight.
