the four hour battle

we needed dirt,

sticks,

rocks, mud, a large

spoon

to dig with

from the kitchen drawer.

we needed

a small patch

of the yard,

maybe a jug of water

to create

an ocean,

that's it.

maybe a cardboard

box

or two.

a handful of plastic

army

soldiers, with tanks

and trucks,

and the afternoon

flew.
