trying to get clean

i scrub

and scrub my hands, 

wringing

them together

under the hot water.

i use

soap and a brush to try

and get

them clean,

pressing hard,

but the dirt and grease

won't budge.

my life,

my sins

are imbedded in the creases

of my skin.
