they sing,
dressed in their sunday
clothes.
they have ashes on their forehead.
they kneel.
they pray.
confess and repent.
they drop a coin into the basket,
shake hands
and say, peace be with you.
it all sticks for an hour or two.
made holy
again.
then the day moves on
and it's back to being
who they really are,
untrue.
