the end now
I see her
in the shadows, pushing
her cart.
a bag of groceries
at the bottom,
her broad hat on,
keeping the sun out.
her silver hair
a tangle
around her shoulders.
she's bone thin.
where's she going?
is she loved, is there
anyone in her life
that wonders where she
is?
she stops to catch
her breath.
she waits for the light
to change.
she was young once,
like you,
like me. like all of
us.
but it's different now.
the end is never
what you thought it
would be.
