I buy a new suit for the occasion.
the old suits,
though very fine
and fairly new
have the stain of bad luck
upon them.
a wedding, a funeral.
is there a difference?
but the new suit is light
weight.
a pale grey.
it fits fine on a summer
afternoon, a white shirt,
crisp in the collar
and an indigo tie.
I hardly know I have it on
as we drive
to where we need to go.
to see a play. to hear
music, to eat and dance
the night away.
it's a good suit and i'll
wear it
only for memories newly
made.
both hers and mine.
