the Peking Duck dish is seventy-five
dollars.
one roasted duck
with the legs up,
the head
off
and a handful of spring
onions
scattered about.
i almost ran
over seven ducks this
afternoon
driving to the restaurant.
why
so much for the ducks?
i ask
the manager,
Jill.
ducks are rare, she says.
very rare.
hard to find ducks around here.
i take her
out to the parking
lot and show
her the front bumper of my
car with
one duck still hanging on.
