and the coffee
shop.
there's a bowl
of gold
fish
in the window, a glass
box
full of turtles
next to a parrot.
in the back
there's a chimpanzee
swinging
on a bar
making monkey noises.
we put our faces to the window
to peer in.
dogs are barking
in cages, while a black cat,
sitting free
on the sill
washes herself with a paw,
oblivious
to it all.
