i cut this tomato
in half,
then into thin
slices
with my ginseng knife
that i bought
at three a.m.
six years ago
on tv,
when i couldn't get to sleep
i wonder where you are.
i lay each
red slice
upon the bread,
with a slice of ham
and Swiss cheese.
then make a diagonal cut,
like you used
to do.
at some point, i'll go
back to bed.
