i want my money back

i see his college
degree
on the wall, behind glass,
framed in
black.
it's above the poster
of Elvis Costello
and the Attractions.
he tells me,
at thirty-five,
that he doesn't want to
work.
never has, in fact.
i don't want to work for
money, he says.
he's artistic, an actor,
an ecology crusader,
a do gooder.
i want to be passionate
about what i do for a living,
he says.
then his girlfriend comes
home
from work,
at the same time his
mother
is coming in the door
with a home cooked
meal.
i want my two hundred
thousand
dollars back.
