rock bottom

you hear the phrase,
well, once they hit rock
bottom, then they'll
see the light and change
their life, begin the climb
back out. it's true,
sometimes, and other
times, there is no bottom.
there is only the fall
the slow descent into
darkness and despair.
with no ropes or
ladders to reach them
even if they wanted
to be reached.
