night train

when you sleep
you snore.
not just a light
breeze, a  mild
exhaust
of lungs through
throat and nose,
no, it's a freight
train coming down
the track with whistles
and rattles. deep
rumblings
and gasping
for air. it startles
her at first
and she taps you
on the shoulder,
then shakes you awake.
what you say, i
was sleeping.
well your snoring
is keeping me
awake. well, i'm
sorry you say. there's
another room
down the hall, go
there. good.
i will. good night.
night you tell her,
shut the door,
i have another train
to catch.
