Christmas cards left over from
the box
of fifty
i bought ten years ago.
people are dying
off
like crazy.
friends,
parents, lovers.
siblings are in the wind,
children
are estranged and living
in unknown
places.
neighbors have moved on.
it's a beautiful
card though.
silver,
with white crumbling candy
like stars.
Santa in a red
suit waving
from his sleigh as it's pulled along
by smiling reindeer
in the sky.
i signed them all
when i first bought the box,
Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year, to you
and yours.
