to be chosen, to be
the one
picked
to play in the game,
we want
the girl to ask us
to dance,
we want
the teacher to praise
us,
our mothers
and fathers to be proud.
we want
to be noticed
for the fancy car
we drive,
the house we live in,
the clothes we
wear.
so much
of our lives
is spent
on building up our self
esteem.
making us feel
better
than what we really are.
