long lost letters

we used to write letters.

handwritten

letters, expressing love,

or joy,

perhaps concerns we have

with each other.

mending a fence

now broken.

with ink pen in hand,

we'd stare at the sheet of

blank white paper

and ponder

what to say.

hopefully in an eloquent

manner.

we look out the window

until we find the words,

then begin.

today, though we send

and emoji

with a smile or a frown

on its yellow face.
