those steps
in boyish leaps
and bounds, two at a time,
all the way up
to the fourth floor where
Delores lived.
she'd leave a key
under her mat,
or the door cracked.
out of breath, i'd find
her in the bath,
singing,
playing the radio.
dinner on the stove.
sometimes i'd bring her
roses.
sometimes i wonder how
she is,
where she's at.
