why can't i throw out that bottle of ranch dressing?

at some point

i will reach into the refrigerator

door

and throw

away

that bottle of ranch dressing.

once used.

i'll toss

out those old

soggy asparagus stalks

and onions

gone bad.

maybe that ketchup bottle

too,

the one with a quarter inch

of sauce

at the bottom.

and what about the freezer.

what the hell

is going on up there?

all those unmarked

and permanently frozen

bags of food.
