every time we meet for a drink
or a meal,
i can't help
but wonder why i keep
putting myself
through
this ordeal.
i don't even like this person.
and yet.
what little good
that there is in me,
keeps saying,
give him one more chance
to grow up,
to mature
and let go of his
overwhelming ego.
but no such luck.
again, i walk away shaking
my head,
and mummering why?
