pot holes

in the road hoping

to make

the rattle go away,

magically tighten

whatever's loose.

i don't even

want to look

but i know i'll have

to take it in

at some point.

explain to some mechanic

what the noise sounds

like.

where it's coming from,

and tell him,

no, i don't know

how or why it happened.

i'm exhausted

before i even take it

to the garage.

after a few miles,

i roll the window

down and listen.

it's still there.
