she used to take the butter
off the table,
remove it from the recipe,
salt too,
sugar was nowhere to be found.
she took
the fat right off the steak,
the oil
went out the door.
no seasoning, no flavor,
and certainly no spice,
or fun.
I should have known what
the future held.
