if I had listened
to the voice inside my
head.
if had
leaned in
and looked deeply
into her eyes.
if I had
taken her pulse,
searched
her soul for what
was true,
what was a lie,
none of this would
have happened.
but I wanted the impossible.
I wanted
true love.
unconditional,
I wanted the world
and her
in it. all of her,
not a small piece
on a small plate
with a small fork.
I wanted her to be
this person that I dreamed
about
as a child.
