it was almost like
having the flu,
for a year. a bad cough,
indigestion,
heart burn, the jitters.
aches and pains,
a fever, anxiety,
and sadness. it was
all encompassing.
the chills, the shakes,
the sleepless nights.
the loss of weight,
that vacant look in
my eyes. tremors,
the tongue dry.
the body cold from
being untouched for
so long.
the constant worry over
what was true, what
was a lie.
it was the worst
flu I've ever had
or ever will, then
suddenly one day,
it was gone, just like
that, and so
was she. hardly a
coincidence.
