when asked if everything is okay,
to say,
yes.
i'm fine, all is well.
and you,
how are you?
why tell them
about the bee sting,
the rash,
the tax bill. why get into
what your
mother said,
or how your children
won't take
out the trash.
there's no use telling them
about the line
at the store, what the dog ate,
or how your wife
doesn't love you anymore.
why burden
them with all the details
of your life
run amok.
it's better to just say,
i'm good.
i'm fine.
and how are you?
