i stare
at the small bag of groceries.
seventy-seven
dollars
and change.
i can pick it up
with one finger.
lettuce,
meat, eggs, milk.
the basics.
did i get everything
i need?
no, not exactly, but
i'll be back tomorrow
and again
the next day,
hoping things have
changed.

I felt this today. A bottle of generic Tylenol costs 14. for a hundred capsules. My cat food was almost 20.
