as they float away

they put too much

helium

into the party balloons,

and now

children are flying

all over the park.

they seem happy though.

holding tightly

onto the strings, 

aloft in the wind,

no longer

tethered to the mothers

and fathers below.

flying off to their

own lives.

it was bound to happen.
