for about an hour
before i began to sweat
and had to leave.
it was a half an hour at my
ex in laws house.
twitching like a cat
in a room full of rocking chairs.
about twenty minutes at
a pool party in maryland,
with a paper plate of potato
salad and a hot dog in my lap.
ten minutes at a funeral home
no matter who died.
nine minutes at a birthday party,
one minute if it was mine.
five minutes at the dmv
before i'd break out in hives.
a pup tent. thirty seconds
and then i'd jump over a cliff
or into a raging waterfall.
