she could talk and talk and talk.
mostly about herself. her work, her
life, her kids.
her dog.
her illnesses, her ex husbands.
where she wants
to go next.
not a question for me.
after about an hour I left my body
and ascended into the air.
I floated above the table,
watching her, watching me.
I saw myself fidgeting, bored
out of my mind. not saying a word.
hoping it would all end soon.
praying that she wouldn't order
another drink,
or god forbid, food.
I wondered, as I often do when
meeting people like this,
what in the hell am I doing there.
