despite seeing
the slick ice,
surrounded
by pink granules
of street
salt
you slip
anyways
and go air borne.
it all happens
in a split
second.
your world
is upside down,
your feet above
your head
as you
careen back
to the ground,
elbows
and hips striking
the cold
pavement first.
you lie there for
a moment
and gaze
at the brilliant
blue
winter sky,
the brown flash
of birds,
the grey white
trees waiting
patiently for spring.
you are strangely
at peace
with world.
sometimes it takes
a fall
to get you there.
