a few happy thoughts
dysfunction
is now
the norm.
like pigeons
we flock
to the neighborhood
pharmacy
and liquor
store to calm
our nerves,
settle
our minds.
there's a long
line
at the therapist's
office.
we buy meaningless
things
to feel good
for a moment.
the new
car, the new
fur, the new
sex partner.
everything is
temporary.
we are the weather.
we are the ocean
with wave
after wave
of days
filling up
nothing. our
food keeps
us hungry.
our sleep
is tumultuous.
something is missing
as we find
everything,
but nothing
to fulfill our
aching souls.
