the new horse

you buy a horse,
you've always dreamed of
having a horse, and put him
in the back yard
to roam
the pasture.
but it's only a twelve
by twelve space
with a shed
and ac unit, some ladders
and a weber
grill
tucked inside.
there might be poison
ivy along the fence,
and snakes,
but you aren't sure.
sometimes you knock on
the window
to say hey to the horse
whom you haven't named yet.
he nods his head and makes
that neighing sound
that horses do.
you should get a saddle
for him
and ride him around.
take lessons.
for now though you wait
for amazon
to deliver oats.
