the rented room
above the store is fine.
the bed hard,
the sheets pulled tight,
two pillows
on the spread, side
by side.
the window is propped open
by a wooden spoon.
the light curtain
of a shadowed green
hang to the sill, blows in.
a tv sits
on the dresser,
there's a bible
in the drawer.
a pen, a pad of paper.
it's fine. this room.
the black phone
on the night stand.
the long black cord.
it's just one night, or
two.
perhaps more.
