she shows me her high school

yearbook,

a cheerleader,

then a picture

from college, homecoming

queen,

one at the beach

when she was twenty-five.

standing on her head

in a red bikini.

i used to model,

she tells me.

i was in a magazine

i say no doubt.

but that was then and this

is now.

we were all beautiful at

that age.

time to let it go,

i tell her.

be brave. believe it

or not,

it's what's inside

that counts.
