freeze
i turn off the water valve
that connects
to the outside.
not sure why
i opened it
last spring.
did i ever use the hose
this year,
this summer,
for anything?
there was hope though,
a new garden,
a patch of tomatoes,
peppers.
green beans.
i look out at the brown
patch
once green,
the rabbits loved me
for that.
