my fishmonger Bluto

i ask my fishmonger,
Bluto,
at Joe's
seafood stand if this is local
calamari,
or from Asia.
he shrugs his shoulders.
i have no idea, he says.
do you want some?
pound? half pound.
it's on sale.
what is calamari, i ask him.
it's a squid, he says,
slapping his hand against
the bloody counter,
it's a cousin to the octopus.

they shoot black ink when
they're in danger,

chicken, do you sell chicken
here.
calamari is so rubbery,
preferably free range chicken
if you have it.
