the lamp store is closing.
for years
I've gone in looking for one
more lamp
to light my life.
to put a shine on a table, or
desk
or brighten a room.
the lady with her wire rimmed
glasses
nods and says,
yes, an end of era.
twenty percent off all floor
lamps
that aren't already on sale.
there are no tears, no nothing
to speak of.
just me and her standing across
from one another with nothing more
to say.
I find one more lamp
and two three way bulbs.
take them out to the car and wonder
where
I might need more light.
