old friends

the shine is off
the wood.
it's aged. the scars
of time
and hand
line the rail
and knob.
it's dull.
the sides are weak,
the screws
loose.
shelves have slipped
from their pegs.
the drawers won't pull,
but it stays.
as all
good friends must do.
