turkey cannonball

careful
not to over cook
the turkey
you set it on low.
way low.
too low maybe
it's four o'clock
and you are
still
seeing pink.
you decide to
deep fry
it at the last
minute
and drop it into
a bucket
of hot oil.
the turkey
shoots through
the roof
like a cannonball,
exploding,
but the wings
and legs
get stuck
in the rafters
so you have
some dark meat.
you call everyone
out from under
the table and say
grace.
you eat.
