too early

I bought this pie
too early
you think to yourself
as you cut another
slice and slide
it onto your plate.
you should have
waited a few more
days. been more
patient, but what
if they were all
gone, then what?
you get
the whipped cream
out and give the
pie a healthy spray.
oh well, you shrug,
and settle into
the big chair,
a week away from
the holiday.
