the last word

i could fall asleep
right now, right here
as i type these words.
my eyes are heavy, my
body aches from a day
of work. i need to get
these clothes off, maybe
burn them. but they
weigh so heavy on me
at the moment, they
are a part of me. the
phone is ringing
somewhere in the house,
but it can wait, they
can wait. the lights
are off, the dog has been
let out. i've got a cold
beer in hand to ease me
into slumber, soon, as soon
as i type this last word,
this last sentence that
is searching for some
meaningful thing to say
to someone who mght read
it, or me the next day.
