when
there were no expiration dates
on cans
and boxes,
bags of food,
things wrapped
in foil or
plastic.
milk
or jams,
all you had to do was
look
at them,
crack it open and smell,
sometimes
it was toss up
before you took a taste,
but that's what little
sisters were for.
